Tonight we went to The Happy Dog. I'm calling it now, this is the next big deal, Food Network, everyone has to go there place in the area. The setup is mostly hot dogs, but they give you a huge list of fancy gourmet toppings (all made in house) and you can pick as many as you want. They often have live music on the stage, but we were totally supprised that the "band" playing tonight was the Cleveland Orchestra. The place was so crowded that we got a Ms. Pac Man machine as a table.

Matthew was in town to sell cassette tapes at his friend's show at the Grog Shop tonight. I know it makes me a grumpy old man to complain about it, but the Grog Shop used to be the name of an establishment that helped to mold my formative adolescent years. It was the size of a small living room, had plywood floors, and the second hand smoke was like a perminant fog machine. They also had the best shows my parents didn't like me going to. For various reasons, they closed that location and moved up the street to a new, clean, fancy and boring space next door to a Chipotle. The new Grog Shop is a lot like a Chipotle that used to be a grimey street-food taco truck actually. Clearly we know which one was better.

My nightstand is looking pretty comically from another time period these days.

For Father's Day, Eric brought home his present. Lily carefully considered her new home. We ate authentic Philadelphia Hoagies for lunch (which seemed like a fancy name for a sub sandwich to me). Then I spent the rest of Father's Day on the highway with my father.

Rita's water ice is supposed to be another big deal Philadelphia thing too.

As I've mentioned before, I'm terribly addicted to buying cameras off of Craigslist. After seeing an ad for a really good deal on a medium format camera I've been wanting, I convinced my mother it would be a good idea to pick up the camera to take pictures of the baby before going to the hospital for the day. There were also promises made of cheesesteaks. If you know my mother at all, this was probably the easiest part of the mission. I then stole Eric's car and set out on a morning long quest adventuring all over random places in Philadelphia. After a drive to far far away, the camera transaction went without a hitch, but of course fancy cameras need fancy film, and as stated there were promises of cheesesteaks. So we were back in the car headed to the other side of the world. After three closed restaurants, my mom got to eat at the Tattooed Mom on South Street. Then it was off to get fancy film at the bougie camera store so we could get back to the hospital to take more pictures of the baby.

I went to Philadelphia to see my sister and Eric's new baby Lily while she was still in the hospital. It was nice seeing the (now) three of them so quickly after the baby came out. I even held the baby.

Furry ear.

This reminds me of how they make maple syrup, but I'm not a tree.

My birthday was a little over five months ago. This moth arived today and represents the last of my presents, and thus the end of my birthday celebration. This has been the longest birthday ever.

Gangland marathon...yawn.

All I ever want to do any more is sit on patios on warm nights all the time forever.

We went to see weirdos at the Circle Fest parade in University Circle. I think Lady Gaga was there too.

Then we looked at things at Gordon Square's street fair and saw a crazy juggler.

Then we sat on the rocks at Edgewater Park and looked at the big lake.

The day concluded with more drinks and dinner on a different patio and talking to funny/friendly/drunk people, but I left my camera at home.

Bikes to dinner and drinks on a patio. We do this so often that I've even taken this picure before (4-1)

Ever since I've started taking pictures every day, I've had to carry a bag around with my camera in it wherever I go. So far, it's been my grey Fred Perry bag which is now starting to look a little beat. Since I had a store credit sitting around, I'll now be using a new Fjallraven Kanken I got for $5.
