After driving all night/morning, I somehow managed to wake up at my grandmother's house in Queens. Her shower cap is way cooler than yours.

Chinese breakfast is by far the best food ever invented, and since I can't get it anywhere where I live, it's often the first thing I do whenever I'm in the city.

There are a lot of people in New York. Living and dead. So many people that in order to get parking anywhere, you pretty much have to cheat.

We spent the rest of the day shopping and walking around all over Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Pizza at the end of the night.

There are eight hours worth of highway between Cleveland and New York. In that nether region, there are lots of truck stops and places like this.

Apparently truckers are very conscious of precisely how much they weigh.

I got 1,560 shots worth of expired film today with another 1,200 on the way (anyone want any expired film?). In the process, I got to journey into the heart of an awesome second hand store. Check out this stereo. Everything still works, I even got to listen to the 8 track. Anyone need to make a call?

The carnivorous plant terrarium Nicole got for her birthday is starting to sprout.

We went foraging for Morel mushrooms today. These can sell for as much as $200 a pound to some gourmet French restaurants, but we just have fun seaching in the forest so we can cook and eat them.

The mushrooms grow in the same woods where we found the nest I posted a few weeks ago. The eggs are now hatched, and today we saw this guy futally attempting to hurtle a train track. Luckly, Nicole was able to help it over the track so it could go swimming with its parents.

Nicole also took the best shot of the day today.

4-24-2010

Pretty much every weekend we go adventuring and treasure hunting in weird places while taking pictures. Through all this, I'm really starting to get more and more interested with the people that devote their lives to run these places.

My friend Terry comes to town once a month to DJ.

So the free shoes I sent away for on March 17th showed up today! Unfortunately, due to some unseen clause about only sending in one pair per box, it doesn't look like Nicole will be getting her pair which totally sucks. However, I now own the Christian Louboutins of cool kid shoes (and they sent me the more expensive model too!).

I saw a face with a hand offering a rude gesture. Nicole saw...something else.

This was in the driveway when I got home today. R.I.P. little birdie.

Nicole's uncle asked her to design some characters for his dog toy line. Since she doesn't like drawing, she decided to just make them out of clay.

I seem to be attracted to lawn ornaments today. Just 'cause.

Also, since I'm unable to bend my arm all the way for the next week, this will be the first day of Point and Shoot Snapshot Week.

Most of today spent getting this stuff embedded in my skin forever by these things.

4-16-2010

I drove out to Erie, PA to hang out with friends and get tattooed.

I really hated that city the first few times I went out there, but it's grown on me immensely. The way motivated people are able to really capitalize and exploit the apparent negatives of a second rate city is really impressive to me. For example, the the local skateboarders somehow managed to procure super prime realestate right in the middle of their downtown, and are converting it into an diy indoor skatepark. I can't imagine how expensive/political this would be to do in any other place, but out there it's totally happening. And that's just one of the many projects that people I know have going on.

If you (or anyone?) have been keeping up with this blog, you know that for the past few months we've been dealing with a skunk that lives in our yard. We've pretty much given up on using the trap since we've caught every other species of animal indigenous to this climate other than the one we want. However, since the smell hasn't been bad recently, I went to investigate/take a picture of the skunk hole tonight. Hopefully he's moved somewhere else.

Here's another animal house. And a picture that's from Sunday, but just came back from the roll I had developed tonight.

Melt is probably my favoite place to eat in the whole city. I'm always supprised by how small their kitchen is though.

Speaking of this city, last week there was a story on the news about the cops ignoring a naked body on the side of the highway for over two hours even though they recieved multiple calls. We drove by that spot the day it happened, and drove by it again tonight. Roadside monuments always make me feel a little strange.

One of the awesome perks of not eating meat is choking down a handfull of pills with dinner every night. Multivitamins x3, a vitamin B supplement, and Cadbury Easter candy to make things not so terrible.

When I came in to work today, I was shocked by my coworker's new found but striking resemblance to Lex Luthor. Since we work across from each other, this is pretty much my view whenever I turn around now.

Speaking of bald people, we have a counter at work where people put free food. Sometimes it will have a box of doughnuts or bagels someone brought in to be nice, or left over props/catering from shoots. Today, I found a bag of Cheetos. Since I didn't have anything for lunch, I greedily ran off with a huge pile to eat in my office. They were delicious. While going back for seconds, I was intercepted and told the origins of said Cheetos. I guess Shaquille O'Neil was in our studio this weekend recording something, and apparently the big guy couldn't take on the Family Size bag all by himself. So yeah, I just unwittingly ate Shaq's leftover Cheetos for lunch. And now I'm wondering if he poured them in a bowl or was just eating out of the bag with his hands...

We went to see Cirque Du Soleil today. Since they don't allow cameras, here's my best (failed) Cirque Du Soleil jump.

When the weather is nice, we go tresspassing for fun. Nicole's dad found a American Five-lined Skink. When they're young, they have bright blue tails (they're often referred to as "Blue-tailed Skink"). As they become adults the tail color fades out, and their heads turn red.

Today, Nicole and I accidentally found Americana. Like seriously "I'm in another universe" Americana.

Even with all our driving across the world, today's spoils were still cheaper than a night at a bar.

Kitties!

This is what a place run by computers looks like in a blackout. Play Joy Division through cell phone speakers for the full experience.

When the power does work, we mostly just make eggs. Lots and lots of eggs. Then we shoot movies starring the eggs.

Nicole is a Starbucks person (addict), as well as an iPhone user (cult member). As such, she has the app which allows for the instantaneous reloading of her "special for people who are there a lot" giftcard. For months now, the app can also produce a barcode which can be quickly scanned to expedite transactions. This barcode, however, only worked in select stores in places that are not here...until now. Target stores are now integrated into the system, so tonight we went to one to try it out. We were the first people to try it at this location, and even with the instructions the employees were provided, it took both Starbucks and Target people to figure out how to make it work. Technology rules.

We also got Nicole a diy bouncy ball set. As a huge fan of things she can slap around the house, which we could potentially step on and break our necks with, Sienna wanted to make one too.

Spring is coming and filling my yard with flower petals.

4-6-2010

Outside, please.

I fixed these. The blades were stuck in the open positon because they were covered in sticky oil. After a few days of fumbling, I managed to take the lens apart, clean the oil off, and with Nicoles help, put it all back together in working order. We'll see how it works when I get the film developed.

Apparently, the Easter Bunny doesn't observe Lent by refraining from meat.

We end up in the strangest places. We stay thuggin'.

4-2-2010

I woke up before the sun to go fly fishing for Steelhead trout today. Capitalizing on another annual migratory behaviour, steelhead instinctive come into the rivers and streams from the lake to lay their eggs this time every year (a lot like salmon). They're huge fish (about a foot and a half on average), and it's really cool seeing them in such shallow water. Those fish weren't nearly big enough for me though, so I caught this massive beast. Note the size of the flies in both pictures for scale.

The sun went to bed before I did too.

Drinking outside on warm evenings is one of my top favorite things to do ever at all. Granted, as soon as the temperature hits 50°, people in Cleveland start wearing shorts and tank tops like it's summer time. But the first really nice night for drinking on a patio is kind of a big deal.

I take a lot of pictures of birds.
