Brunchday. On an excellent tip from Friday night, we tried out a new cafe named after both my favorite Harry Potter character and species of moth. Eating crepes and croissants all morning at sidewalk cafes is pretty much dress rehearsal for vacation this year. This one even had random opera singer street performers. Classy. Also classy were these kids and this car. I guess there was some sort of street festival going on. I'm not sure if this cop was considering getting a feather braided into his hair or arresting people for sitting on the sidewalk.

It's still berry picking season.

In case I haven't been posting enough creepy insect pictures, here's a fishfly that hitchhiked on our car home from dinner. There isn't a lot of information about them on the internet, but we did read that they're closely related to the dobsonfly. The dobsonfly is pretty rare to see in the wild since they only live for a week. Additionally, they can bite hard enough to draw blood at this size (about two inches long). I don't know if fishflies bite too or not, but for what it's worth, I thought that this was a dobsonfly while I was taking pictures of it and was scared the whole time.

Every year, the suburb we live in attracts international attention with its festival celebrating multiple offspring pregnancies. They have a parade that involves candy throwing, reason enough to attend on its own, but Nicole and I have gone every year since moving here to watch the spectacle. It's become a tradition.

What's a parade without bagpipes right?
Mobs of twins.
Not all of them want to be there.
This costume(?) was my favorite.
It's a little like your eyeballs are drunk...everywhere you look...everything is twice.
It's a little creepy and a bit disconcerting.
This is fun though right?
They look like they're having fun.
They definitely are.
I'm not sure I want to know what they consider as fun.
This dude totally caught me.
I took pictures of these guys last year.

Beyond the parade, carnival lemonade is one of Nicole's favorite aspects of whole deal. If you've read my blog before, you know that we're pretty much on a diet of fair food as much as possible for the whole summer. Nicole encouraged us into embarassing breakfast even by our standards. Now lots of random pictures...I found twin poisonous mushrooms, and shot clowns in the mouth. I didn't ride any rides though. Nicole made new friends. I invaded a bus yard.

Also an annual tradition for us, wild blackberry season coincides with twin madness. We go foraging to pick berries. This looks harmless, but Nicole is really standing in a healthy field of poison ivy. She's very brave and daring when it comes to berries. I stay away from poison anything, and chase bugs around to take their portrait. The berry picking excursion was worth it though.

After some naptime, we went back for equally embarrassing vegetarian dinner. I'm a huge fan of carnival ride and carnival game people, but I'm a bigger fan of fireworks. Nicole and I ate key lime pie custard while we waited for it to get dark. Dark enough for glowing things like fireworks. We made sure to get close enough that we could see them launching right in front of us. The End.

Nicole and I go all of the places and do all of the stuff. So I get pretty excited when we get invited to go to a place I don't usually go to sit by the water, eat food, and party all night at a place I hadn't even heard of before.

P.s. I want a boat.

I know I post a lot about my peppers, but it's because I'm really excited that they're actually growing. I've never successfully grown anything before, and they're a ton of work for something so little. In any case, my very first orange Thai pepper if finally all the way ripe, and there are already more on the way! Since this marks the birth of my first pepper baby, I thought the only appropriate thing to do would be to eat it...raw. The picture above pretty well summarizes the experience (other than the gallon of milk I drowned myself in immediately after the shot). Hot peppers are hot.

My Thai pepper was the only really ripe pepper so far, but since some of my habaneros had some weird looking spots on them and the internet told me that you can still eat them when they're green, I decided to make something. Nicole got fresh avocados and I chopped up my green habaneros, a bunch of garlic, onions, cilantro, and lime juice, and made fresh, unripe habanero guacamole. I actually "cooked" something! (even though all the ingredients were raw and there was no actual cooking involved)

Minivans this outrageous can only be grown in the suburbs.

I think sushi is one of the best looking foods. Also good looking is the first semi-orange (ripe) pepper on my plants. Hopefully more peppers will be ready to eat soon.

I really like taking pictures at concerts. I really don't like trying to organize them in some cohesive manner on my blog. So here are a bunch of miscellaneous pictures of one of my current favorite bands, Cold Cave, and the opening band Austra.

This girl's dance moves were my favorite.

If you've been following my documentation of the lady bug life cycle on my pepper plants, this is the newest stage. The larvae have now turned into pupa, and will hangout for a while before hatching again as adults.

If you're not interested in insects, the only other interesting part of my day was hot sauce. Sorry, it's a Monday.

I spent my whole day on this street, then ate pizza that comes with honey. My day was really a lot more eventful than my pictures look.

We ran a race at the zoo. It was fast and really hot. I asked a cheetah to make me faster. After running, we walked even more in the even hotter and looked at animals. These are my favorites.

This giraffe likes to eat.
Nicole got to feed it a leaf.
She probably wishes she could feed this little cat a mouse.
This little cat probably wishes it could eat a baby.
This (kind of?) cat has a hamster wheel.
This is a rare and exotic bird.
I like turtles.
I have no idea what these two were doing though.
This one is old.
This is the vegetarian fish that learned how to eat people on Monster Quest.
That would be weird if butterflies learned to eat people.
This one is looking at you.
This guy reminds me of Sea World.
This bear shakes like a dog.
This bear cub has a bath tub (that rhymes).
The bear cubs were my favorite thing at the zoo.
It's pretty rare to see this bear with its eyes open.
We made commercials for these guys at work.
Bye.

I'm moving. Unfortunately, I'm not taking my talents to South Beach, but rather moving around the corner and down the hall to a new office with a window for my toys to look out of! I even have a giant piece of paper for a coloring wall (even though I'm too intimidated to draw anything on it yet). This is all very exciting for me, which I'm sure you know if you read about my closet office (which is now going to be returned to its intended use of storage) last week. So after almost three years in my little orange closet (1-4-10), this is where I'll be every weekday for the next who knows how long. I'm going to go look outside now. Bye.

Nicole likes berries like I like tacos. These all grew in our yard this year. This red one came from a plant my friend Victor gave us when we first got the house, and we've managed not to kill it after all these years (the plant not the house). The black ones randomly started growing in our yard this year and are now declared as protected nature preserve from the lawn mower.

Ok, so I realize I've been posting a lot of pictures of creepy little bugs, but my pepper plants just introduce me to a lot of weird looking stuff that I think is interesting. And really, this isn't that weird. Remember all those lady bugs doin' it on my plants on 6-22-11? Well I guess it worked, because their eggs hatched, and now I have lady bug larvae on my plants! This is a good thing because they eat tons of aphids (aphids are bad for my peppers). I think it's cool watching entire life cycles happen on the leaves of my plants over time. After larvae hatch from eggs, they'll run around and eat a ton of aphids, then make a little pupa shell. Then the pupa hatches as a full adult lady bug to start the cycle all over again.

With all the running and trying to be healthy that we've been doing, it seems like forever since I drank super fancy grandpa scotch. Meeting up with a friend is always a great excuse to visit a new place that I've been meaning to check out. Especially since said place happens to have a whole wall of whisky. This is exciting. Also exciting was finding crazy orb-weaver spider webs. The one above is pretty perfect compared to this crazy one. Maybe this spider catches more bugs, but it probably just drank too much scotch before making its web.

These new glowing shoes will undoubtedly make Nicole faster...which will help this weekend.

So yeah, I post a lot of pictures of food. What can I say? I tend to take pictures of things that I like, and there aren't many things that I like doing more than eating. Besides, these are kind of special. They're truffled fried yucca from a (not bougie) chain restaurant. That makes them special because 1) I'm hoping that truffle oil is going to become a trend ingredient in lots of places everywhere, and 2) this is preparation for the real truffle I'm planning on eating on vacation! It's still forever away, but I'm already getting really ready to go go go.
